Meet Nikki Hart

Qualified to provide advice over all aspects of nutrition – Nikki became most well-known as being a “Weight Management Expert” (you may remember her as ‘The Evil Diet Witch’) when she hosted her two TV series ‘Eat Yourself Whole’ and ‘The Fat Chance’. Family & Medical nutrition with an emphasis on normalising food and not talking in nutrients became Nikki’s focus. GPs and specialists often refer her adults/children/families to help them through the complex and emotional stress of obesity or medical conditions linked with being overweight – such as Diabetes Type 2, raised cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, poly-cystic ovaries (PCOS) etc. In contrast, she also sees many young people with eating disorders and works with psychologists and other health professionals to aid in their recovery.

Another speciality of Nikki’s is Hydration & Sports. Because she enjoys running, mountain biking, snow-boarding as well as other sporting activities Nikki became particularly interested in optimising performance. She was awarded a First Class Honours Masters Degree in Nutritional Science specialising in the issues of ‘water overload’ in female ultradistance triathletes. This special interest in hydration has also allowed her to consult to the beverage industry where she has provided information on non-nutritive sweeteners, electrolytes, caffeine and carbohydrate formulations. Nikki has also worked as a nutritionist on a beverage designed to help prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) in people undertaking air-travel.

Hormonal fluctuations that occur throughout a woman’s lifespan such as PCOS, pregnancy, breast feeding and into menopause can impact on your body’s need for certain nutrients as

well as metabolism. Women’s metabolic rates drop significantly in their 40’s – by almost a quarter! Nikki understands these changes and uses the Glycemic Index as well as other nutrition tools to help you avoid nutrient deficiency and stay energised.

After completing an education session at Monash University Nikki now uses Sue Shepherd’s dietary management approach (the low FODMAP™ diet) to help manage clients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Other gastro-intestinal conditions such as Fructose malabsorption, lactose intolerance, and inflammatory bowel diseases etc can also be affected through specific nutrition application.

Nikki is a favoured public health speaker for many companies, schools and organisations and is a regular media spokesperson for print, radio and TV commentary on a wide range of nutrition topics. Speaking out however hasn’t always been easy for Nikki as she developed a stutter when she was 4 years old. Helping people find their voice is something she is very passionate about so Nikki was thrilled to be announced as the ambassador for START (Stuttering Treatment and Research Trust).
